Joseph Francis Bergh has been a practicing attorney for over seventeen (17) years. Mr. Bergh focuses his practice on criminal defense. He handles all types of criminal charges, from traffic tickets, offenses, misdemeanor and felonies. Mr. Bergh accepts cases for all courts in Onondaga County and the adjacent counties, including Oswego, Madison, Cayuga, Cortland and Oneida Counties.
For eleven (11) years, Mr. Bergh was an Assistant Corporation Counsel for the City of Syracuse. In that time, he represented the Syracuse Police Department and its police officers in lawsuits and other proceedings. From this experience, he handled challenges to police actions, including stops, searches and seizures and arrests of individuals who were charged with crimes. Mr. Bergh utilizes this experience in representing those charged by law enforcement agencies with alleged offenses and crimes. His experience has also given him knowledge as to the types of records and information kept by law enforcement agencies, including information that can be helpful to a person who is defending themselves against accusations of criminal conduct. Mr. Bergh regularly drafts and files motions on behalf of clients, challenging police stops and searches and seizures.
Presently, Mr. Bergh is a member of the Onondaga County Assigned Counsel Program's misdemeanor and felony panels. He represents defendants at arraignments in Syracuse City Court through the Assigned Counsel Program. He regularly appears in Syracuse City Court, Onondaga County Court and the Justice Courts of Clay, DeWitt, Geddes, Lysander, Manlius, Onondaga, Otisco, Pompey, Salina, Skaneateles, Spafford and Tully, among other courts. He has also handled cases in Fulton City Court, Baldwinsville, Fabius, Liverpool and Marcellus.
